Reddit’s 6% Rally Supercharged 2x ETFs — but Leveraged Products Magnify Path Risk as Well as Gains

Reddit’s rally drove nearly double-digit gains in leveraged ETFs tied to the stock. The move shows how 2x products amplify single-day momentum, but daily reset mechanics can create materially different long-term outcomes.

Reddit’s sharp one-day rally produced even larger gains in leveraged exchange-traded products linked to the stock, highlighting both the appeal and the risk of daily 2x exposure.

The supplied source reported that Reddit shares rose about 6% in the session, while certain leveraged ETFs gained close to 12%. That is broadly consistent with the products’ objective of delivering approximately twice the stock’s daily return before fees and tracking effects.

The important word is daily.

Leveraged ETFs reset exposure each trading day. Over longer periods, the return can diverge substantially from two times the underlying stock’s cumulative return because of compounding and volatility.

A simple example shows why. If a stock rises 10% one day and falls 9.1% the next, it returns roughly to its starting point. A 2x daily fund would rise about 20% and then fall about 18.2%, leaving the investor with a loss despite the stock ending near flat.

That path dependency becomes especially important for volatile stocks such as Reddit.

Reddit’s fundamentals have improved materially. The company reported second-quarter 2026 revenue of $805 million, up 61% year over year. Daily active uniques rose 18% to 130.3 million, and adjusted EBITDA reached $343 million, or 43% of revenue.

Those numbers support the long-term growth story, particularly in advertising and international monetization.

But a leveraged ETF introduces a second layer of risk on top of the stock thesis. Even if an investor is correct that Reddit will be higher in six months, a volatile path can erode the leveraged product’s return.

Single-stock leveraged products also concentrate exposure. There is no diversification benefit from holding multiple businesses, and a company-specific earnings miss or regulatory event can produce an outsized loss.

This makes them more appropriate as tactical instruments than as passive long-term holdings for most investors.

The stock rally itself appears to have been supported by optimism around advertising demand and management commentary. Reddit benefits from a large base of user-generated content and high-intent communities that can be attractive to advertisers.

The company is also improving profitability, which changes the investment story from “growth at any cost” to profitable scaling.

For the common stock, investors should focus on DAUq growth, ad revenue, international monetization and margins. For leveraged ETFs, they must also account for daily reset mechanics and volatility decay.

Fees matter more in leveraged products as well. Daily leverage requires derivatives or financing, and the expense ratio can be substantially higher than a conventional ETF. Over long holding periods, those costs compound alongside volatility drag.

There is also event risk. Reddit can move 15% or more around earnings, user-growth surprises or advertising guidance. A 2x product can amplify that into a very large one-day portfolio move. Investors using leverage should size positions based on potential drawdown, not just expected upside.

Volatility drag becomes more severe when the underlying stock oscillates. Reddit has the kind of growth-stock profile that can produce large up and down days even when the longer-term trend is unchanged. That makes daily leverage especially path-dependent. Traders using 2x products should define both holding period and maximum loss before entering rather than assuming the leverage will simply double the final outcome.

Liquidity can also be thinner in single-stock leveraged ETFs than in the underlying shares. Wider spreads and market impact can raise the real cost of entering or exiting during volatile sessions, especially around earnings or major news.

BTI’s bottom line: Reddit’s rally shows why 2x ETFs can look compelling during strong momentum days. But leverage magnifies both direction and path. Investors who want long-term exposure to Reddit’s business should understand that a daily leveraged product is not simply “twice the stock” over time.
