ARKK and ARKG Give Investors Concentrated Tempus AI Exposure

ARKK and ARKG Give Investors Concentrated Tempus AI Exposure

ARKK and ARKG held sizable Tempus AI positions in their July filings, with ARKG carrying the larger portfolio weight. Investors should track changing holdings, Personalis overlap and the combined exposure across direct and fund positions.

Investors can own meaningful Tempus AI exposure without buying the stock directly. At July 31, 2026, the ARK Innovation ETF held 6,197,179 Tempus shares worth about $271.9 million, equal to 4.89% of net assets. The ARK Genomic Revolution ETF held 2,329,124 shares worth about $102.2 million, or 6.56% of net assets. Those positions made Tempus a material contributor to both funds rather than a token holding.

The two funds create different kinds of exposure. ARKK spreads its portfolio across several innovation themes, so Tempus competes for weight with companies in electric vehicles, digital assets, software and other growth industries. ARKG is narrower and places Tempus inside a genomics and healthcare portfolio. That higher July weight means ARKG offered the more concentrated Tempus exposure of the two on the filing date.

A fund weight is a dated snapshot, not a permanent allocation. ARK's own ARKG page showed Tempus at 7.81% on September 10, up from 6.56% in the July filing. The change could reflect trading, Tempus share-price movement or both. ARK says its holdings files are updated after each trading day, so investors should check the latest portfolio before using an old percentage to size exposure.

ARKG also held Personalis at 5.47% of assets on July 31 and 5.75% on September 10. Tempus has agreed to acquire Personalis, subject to shareholder approval and other closing conditions. An ARKG holder therefore had exposure to both sides of the proposed transaction. That overlap can amplify the effect of deal news, but it does not make completion certain.

The latest Tempus quarter explains why the position can move a fund's returns. Revenue rose 23% from a year earlier to $411.5 million, data and applications revenue grew 33%, and adjusted EBITDA reached $25.6 million. At the same time, Tempus still reported a $14.9 million GAAP net loss, recorded $50.8 million of stock-based compensation and related payroll taxes, and carried about $1.175 billion of convertible senior notes on a net basis. The earnings improvement and the remaining financing risk belong in the same analysis.

Broad thematic labels are not enough to identify exposure. The original source review found no Tempus position in the cited June holdings for the iShares Biotechnology ETF or in the cited August holdings for the Global X Artificial Intelligence & Technology ETF. That finding is specific to those reporting dates and can change. Investors comparing funds should inspect the actual holdings list, position weight and reporting date instead of assuming that every biotechnology or artificial-intelligence fund owns Tempus.

For existing ARKK or ARKG holders, the practical question is total portfolio concentration. A direct Tempus position adds to the exposure already embedded in the funds, while an ARKG position also brings holdings in competitors and transaction counterparties such as Guardant Health, Natera and Personalis. The right measure is not merely whether a fund owns Tempus, but how much of the investor's combined portfolio depends on the same company, industry and pending deal.
