Chevron Names New CFO as It Reassigns Four Senior Leaders

Chevron will move New Energies chief Jeff Gustavson into the CFO role and shift current finance chief Eimear Bonner to lead oil, products and gas beginning January 2027.

Chevron is reshaping the top of its organization for 2027, moving four senior executives into new roles that place the current finance chief over the company's main operating portfolio and bring an operating executive into finance.

Effective January 1, 2027, Eimear Bonner will leave the chief financial officer role to become president of Oil, Products & Gas. Chevron said she will oversee operations across the value chain and be responsible for capital allocation. That makes her move more than a title change: it puts a finance executive with direct knowledge of the balance sheet in charge of the businesses that consume most of the company's capital.

Jeff Gustavson, currently president of Chevron New Energies, will become CFO. His remit will include audit, controller, investor relations, tax, treasury and corporate planning. Gustavson previously held senior roles in Chevron's upstream operations, including leadership of the Lower Carbon Energies business and the Mid-Continent Business Unit.

Mark Nelson will leave the executive vice president role but remain vice chair, with responsibility for strategy and business development. Brent Gros, currently president of Chevron's offshore business, will replace Gustavson as president of New Energies and also oversee Chevron's artificial-intelligence strategy.

The changes do not by themselves alter Chevron's spending plans, production targets or shareholder-return policy. They do, however, redistribute accountability at a time when the company is integrating a larger portfolio and balancing conventional oil and gas investment against lower-carbon and technology initiatives.

For investors, the key question is whether Bonner's capital-allocation discipline carries into operating decisions while Gustavson maintains credibility with the market in the CFO role. The handoff is planned months in advance, reducing immediate continuity risk. Evidence of a strategic shift would have to come later through budgets, project approvals or revised financial targets, none of which was included in the announcement.

The first measurable test will be whether 2027 capital decisions and financial communication remain consistent through the transition.
