Strategy Proposes Daily STRC Dividends to Lower Its Funding Cost
Strategy wants STRC preferred shareholders to receive dividends every calendar day, subject to approval. The proposal aims to tighten the security's yield spread, but the 12% rate and daily schedule are not yet unconditional.
Strategy is proposing to pay dividends on its STRC preferred stock every calendar day, including weekends. The change is designed to make the security behave more like a continuously accruing cash instrument and, over time, reduce the yield premium investors demand.
The proposal is conditional. Shareholders are scheduled to vote on October 28, and the indicated 12% rate for November still requires the necessary declaration and approvals. Until those steps occur, investors should not treat the daily schedule or the rate as guaranteed.
Executive Chairman Michael Saylor said STRC was trading at a spread of roughly 700 basis points over the 10-year Treasury yield. Management's stated objective is first to narrow that spread toward 400 to 500 basis points, with a longer-term ambition of 200 to 300 basis points. If the market accepts the new payment structure, a lower required yield would reduce the cost of raising additional capital.
That is the strategic appeal. Strategy uses preferred securities as part of a broader capital stack tied to its bitcoin accumulation model. A security that trades close to its $100 target and attracts income investors could provide repeatable funding without issuing only common stock or conventional debt.
The risk is that payment frequency does not change credit exposure. Investors remain dependent on Strategy's liquidity, asset values and willingness to maintain the distribution. The company says it holds a cash reserve equal to about 3.5 years of dividends, which provides a buffer but not a permanent guarantee.
Daily dividends can improve cash-flow timing and marketability, yet the economic value still comes from the annual rate and the issuer's ability to pay. The October vote and subsequent declaration will determine whether the proposal becomes operative. After that, the important evidence will be STRC's price stability, yield spread and Strategy's access to capital, not the novelty of receiving a small payment every day.
