Snowflake’s Faster Growth Narrows Losses but Raises the Valuation Test

Snowflake accelerated revenue growth and reduced its operating loss, yet lower-margin AI workloads and a sales-based valuation leave little room for execution errors.

Snowflake’s 2026 rally has been supported by faster growth, not only enthusiasm for artificial intelligence. Revenue growth accelerated from 30.1% in fiscal fourth-quarter 2026 to 35.1% in fiscal second-quarter 2027, while product revenue grew 37% in the latest quarter.

Management also raised its fiscal 2027 product-revenue growth forecast to 36%. The operating evidence matters because customers that adopt Snowflake’s AI tools are using more of the broader data platform. That can strengthen consumption growth beyond the AI products themselves.

Profitability is improving, but the company remains unprofitable under generally accepted accounting principles. Snowflake’s operating loss narrowed to 17.0% of revenue in fiscal second-quarter 2027 from 29.7% a year earlier. Over the 12 months through July 2026, however, it still lost about $1.09 billion, leaving investors to value the company mainly on sales and future margins.

That creates a two-sided AI effect. New workloads can accelerate demand, but management has said those workloads carry lower margins today. The company must prove that greater consumption and model efficiency can offset that pressure as usage scales. Its target of GAAP profitability in fiscal fourth-quarter 2028 remains a goal, not a current result.

The shares had risen 59.3% from January 18 through October 15, far ahead of the S&P 500. After that re-rating, another strong quarter may be required merely to defend the valuation. Investors should watch product-revenue growth, remaining performance obligations and the operating-loss ratio together rather than treating any single AI adoption figure as decisive.
