Materion Corporation Reports Record Second-Quarter 2026 Financial Results and Raises Full-Year Outlook

Materion delivered record profitability, stronger cash generation and substantial backlog growth in the second quarter, supporting higher full-year adjusted earnings guidance while leaving investors exposed to economic, commodity, geopolitical and execution risks.

Materion Corporation (NYSE: MTRN) reported record second-quarter 2026 results on Aug. 5 and raised its full-year outlook, citing accelerating demand for advanced materials across high-performance markets. Net sales increased to $613.9 million from $431.7 million in the prior-year period. Value-added sales, which exclude pass-through metals, rose 15% to $308.2 million from $269.0 million. Growth was led by record quarterly aerospace and defense sales, with significant gains across semiconductor, industrial, energy, and telecom and data center markets. Each business segment delivered double-digit year-over-year sales growth. Net income increased to $38.8 million, or $1.84 diluted earnings per share, from $25.1 million, or $1.21 per share. Adjusted net income, excluding acquisition amortization, was $40.1 million, or $1.90 per diluted share, compared with $1.37 a year earlier. Operating profit rose to $51.7 million from $36.8 million. Adjusted EBITDA reached a record $71.8 million, or 23.3% of value-added sales, versus $55.8 million, or 20.8%, in the prior-year period. The 250-basis-point margin expansion marked the first time Materion exceeded a 23% quarterly adjusted EBITDA margin. Free cash flow was $59 million, representing approximately 150% cash conversion. Quarter-end backlog was a record, up approximately 30% year over year and 20% since the beginning of 2026. The company also awarded approximately $15 million in new business to supply advanced materials critical to engine performance for a large commercial space customer. Based on first-half performance, backlog and order-rate momentum, management now expects mid-teens top-line growth and full-year adjusted earnings per share of $6.80 to $7.20, representing a 30% increase from 2025 at the midpoint. The guidance excludes potentially significant insurance and litigation claims, legacy environmental costs, acquisition and integration expenses, certain income-tax items and other non-routine costs. Materion said it cannot reconcile the adjusted range with comparable GAAP guidance without unreasonable effort. Investors should monitor inflation, recessionary conditions, tariffs, trade agreements, raw-material prices, product mix, customer finances, acquisitions, capital projects, energy and regulatory costs, interest rates, insurance availability, litigation, geopolitical conflicts and operational disruptions.
