Ripple Joins DTCC Tokenization Group, but XRP Is Not the Rail

Ripple Prime is helping DTCC shape a tokenized-securities service, but DTCC's production tests used Besu and Canton and disclosed no role for XRP or the XRP Ledger.

Ripple Prime has a seat in the group helping DTCC build a tokenized-securities service, but that does not make XRP the service's settlement asset. DTCC named Ripple Prime among more than 50 participating firms on May 4, alongside BlackRock, JPMorgan, Circle, Goldman Sachs and other institutions. The membership is evidence of Ripple's institutional reach, not evidence of demand for its token.

DTCC plans to let participants convert eligible securities held at its Depository Trust Company subsidiary into tokenized representations with the same economic rights and investor protections. The initial scope covers highly liquid assets, including Russell 1000 stocks, major index ETFs and U.S. Treasuries. The Securities and Exchange Commission staff issued a no-action letter in December 2025 for a limited three-year pilot, while DTCC targeted an October 2026 service launch.

The strongest evidence against a direct XRP connection came from DTCC's own July 15 production exercise. More than 30 firms completed collateral, securities-lending, Treasury, repo and equity workflows using DTCC's private Besu network and the public Canton Network. DTCC did not identify the XRP Ledger as one of the networks used.

Ripple Prime could still benefit as a brokerage business. Ripple created the division after completing its acquisition of Hidden Road in October 2025, and the business offers trading, financing and clearing across digital assets and traditional products. Ripple also says clients may use XRP, its RLUSD stablecoin and other assets as collateral. Those are optional services for Ripple clients, not a commitment by DTCC participants to buy or hold XRP.

The distinction matters because Ripple is a private company and XRP is a separate traded asset. A larger prime-brokerage franchise can strengthen Ripple's business without creating a mechanical flow into XRP. DTCC's program may use bank deposits, stablecoins or other settlement assets, and its design emphasizes interoperability across multiple approved networks.

The source reported XRP at about $1.31 on October 23, down 12.1% for the month and 28.8% in 2026. Those figures show that institutional announcements had not offset broader selling by that date. They do not prove that tokenization activity has no long-term value, only that no measurable XRP demand had been disclosed.

Investors should separate three claims: Ripple Prime is part of DTCC's working group; DTCC is moving tokenized securities into production; and XRP is not currently identified as the rail or settlement asset. Only the first two are established. A direct XRP catalyst would require DTCC or its participants to name the XRP Ledger, XRP collateral or XRP settlement in an implemented workflow.
