Eaton's Premium Valuation Now Depends on Margin Delivery

Eaton leads selected industrial peers on growth but trails several on operating margin. Data-center demand and backlog support the premium, while margin execution is the next test.
Eaton's valuation asks investors to pay now for growth that still must translate into stronger margins. The source comparison, dated October 12, put Eaton at 43.3 times trailing earnings, above Emerson at 35.2 times, Parker Hannifin at 33.1 times and Hubbell at 27.8 times.
The premium has an operating foundation. Eaton's trailing revenue grew 15.5%, fastest in the selected group. Official second-quarter results showed sales of $8.5 billion, up 21%, with 14% organic growth. Management said data-center sales rose about 65%, while backlog across the electrical businesses was 43% higher than a year earlier.
The trade-off is profitability. The peer table put Eaton's trailing operating margin at 17.7%, below Emerson, Parker and Hubbell. Eaton's official second-quarter segment margin was 23.1%, down 80 basis points year over year, although it beat guidance. Those measures differ, but both keep price-cost execution in focus. Management guided to adjusted 2026 EPS of $13.40 to $13.60. If margins recover while backlog converts, the premium can hold. If costs stay ahead of price, the multiple leaves less room for disappointment.
