Bitdeer's $2.9 Billion AI Backlog Changes the Mix, but Delivery Comes Next

Bitdeer tripled September bitcoin production and lifted AI Cloud backlog to about $2.9 billion. The contracts broaden its revenue base, but deployment timing and capital intensity remain critical.

Bitdeer reported two large operating shifts in September: bitcoin production tripled from a year earlier to 1,355 coins, and AI Cloud revenue backlog rose from about $900 million in August to roughly $2.9 billion. The figures show a company expanding both sides of its computing business at once.

The AI increase came largely from commitments covering more than 70% of the 21.7-megawatt A201 data center in Johor Bahru, Malaysia. Bitdeer said those commitments represent more than $1.7 billion of expected revenue over five years. The facility is designed for Nvidia GB300 NVL72 systems, with full deployment and service targeted for April 2027.

Backlog is valuable, but it is not current revenue. The contracts still depend on equipment delivery, data-center energization, customer readiness and Bitdeer's ability to fund construction and hardware. The company reported 4,328 deployed GPUs and 95% utilization in September, yet annualized recurring revenue remained about $86 million. The gap between current run-rate revenue and reported backlog makes execution the central question.

Mining also grew sharply. Self-mining hash rate reached 82.3 exahashes per second, up from 35.0 a year earlier, while monthly bitcoin output increased 200%. Higher output can support cash generation, but mining economics remain exposed to bitcoin prices, network difficulty, equipment efficiency and power costs.

The combination gives Bitdeer a broader story than a conventional miner. AI contracts may make revenue more visible and reduce reliance on bitcoin cycles, while owned power and infrastructure can serve both workloads. Investors now need evidence that the backlog converts on schedule and at attractive margins. April 2027 deployment at A201, AI Cloud revenue growth and capital spending are the clearest milestones.
