Barton Gold Doubles Challenger Underground Resource to 230,000 Ounces

Barton Gold's remodelling lifted Challenger's underground resource to 230,000 ounces at 3.65 grams per tonne, while a feasibility study evaluates restarting operations through the permitted Central Gawler Mill.

Barton Gold has more than doubled the underground mineral resource at its Challenger project in South Australia, adding scale to a potential restart built around existing mine development and a permitted processing plant.

The revised Challenger underground estimate contains 230,000 ounces of gold at an average grade of 3.65 grams per tonne. That includes 206,800 ounces in 1.75 million tonnes grading 3.68 grams per tonne above the 215-metre level and 23,000 ounces in 210,000 tonnes grading 3.50 grams per tonne in the deeper zone. Challenger's total resource, including open-pit, underground and tailings areas, is now 370,000 ounces in 11.2 million tonnes at 1.03 grams per tonne.

Across Challenger and the nearby Tarcoola project, Barton's "Hub 1" resources total about 400,000 ounces. The company identified 169,000 ounces as open-pittable. It also upgraded 220,000 tonnes of Tarcoola stockpiles grading 1.23 grams per tonne to the indicated category, which carries more geological confidence than an inferred resource.

Loading market context

The strategic advantage is location. Much of the mineralization lies in, on or beside existing open-pit and underground workings, and Barton owns the fully permitted Central Gawler Mill. The company is conducting a definitive feasibility study on a three-to-four-year initial operation using higher-grade tailings and limited near-surface material. Publication is targeted for the first quarter of 2027. Management is separately reviewing whether the larger underground resource should be incorporated into a broader development plan.

The resource update does not establish an ore reserve or prove economic viability. The initial feasibility concept deliberately excludes the historic underground mine, and future economics will depend on recovery, capital spending, operating costs, mine sequencing and financing. Challenger produced more than one million ounces before closing in 2018, but historical production does not guarantee a successful restart.

Barton now reports total company gold resources of 2.29 million ounces at 0.89 grams per tonne. The near-term investment question is whether the feasibility study can convert infrastructure leverage and higher-confidence feed into a financeable restart plan rather than simply a larger geological inventory.
