AMD Stock Jumps After Unveiling $100,000-Plus AI Workstation for 2027

AMD shares rose 2% in Asian markets after the company introduced a high-end workstation for local AI development and inference, with support for up to four accelerators and 576 GB of HBM3E memory.

AMD shares climbed 2% in Asian markets after the chipmaker unveiled the Threadripper Halo Station, a workstation designed to run very large artificial intelligence models without relying entirely on cloud infrastructure. The system combines AMD’s 96-core Ryzen Threadripper PRO 9995WX processor with two liquid-cooled Instinct MI350P accelerators. It can be expanded to four accelerators, providing between 288 GB and 576 GB of HBM3E memory. AMD said the workstation is designed for AI development and inference involving models with as many as one trillion parameters. Its architecture provides up to 16 TB per second of pooled memory bandwidth, while a closed-loop cooling system is designed to manage approximately 1,550 watts of thermal output. The product targets corporate AI teams, researchers and developers that need to process sensitive workloads locally. This positioning could appeal to organizations seeking greater control over data and model execution, while reducing dependence on cloud systems for certain demanding workloads. The workstation places AMD in competition with Nvidia’s DGX Station systems and gives AMD another potential avenue to challenge Nvidia in high-end AI infrastructure. Adoption could support demand for AMD processors and accelerators, although the investment case depends on converting the specifications into meaningful sales and broader customer uptake. AMD has not disclosed pricing or a specific launch date. Commercial availability is expected in 2027, and the system is aimed at a $100,000-plus enterprise and research segment. The long lead time creates room for competitive developments, particularly from Nvidia.
